Even now, I still wonder what it is about these paintings that draws us in so completely. \u003cbr\u003eIt is said that Ōkyo did more than simply paint what he saw. By skillfully manipulating light and shadow, he gave his subjects a remarkable sense of depth and three-dimensional form.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eInspired by his work, we sought to capture that same quality in this design, using the subtle gradations of ink-wash painting to depict black carp swimming through flowing water.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eBringing this design to life required six separate printing blocks.
