Even in an age when science has advanced enough to explain so much of our world, there are still a few rare phenomena that seem to transcend logic—moments that feel as though they carry a message from the spiritual realm.

In the ancient Japanese language, the tiny spheres of light that gently drift through the air, invisible to the naked eye, are known as Tamayura.
Today they are often called orbs. While their appearance may be explained scientifically, many believe that the unseen force guiding them is the presence of spirits.
This is an experience I had many years ago.
During an event at Daikaku-ji Temple in Sagano, I was photographing the lights reflected across Osawa Pond after night had fallen. As I continued taking photographs, I was suddenly struck by an intense flash of light—so brilliant that I had no choice but to close my eyes.

It lasted only an instant.
A fragile, fleeting radiance, almost like a vision. I have no doubt that I truly witnessed it, and yet, when I opened my eyes, the world around me remained wrapped in darkness.

Even now, after all these years, I have never forgotten that fleeting moment.
They say Tamayura often appear in places where nature and spirit seem to coexist—deep forests, mountain valleys, mist-covered meadows, ancient graveyards, battlefields, and the sacred grounds of shrines and temples.

Each landscape carries its own quiet presence.
Within a world of deep indigo, natural scenery emerges through the traditional Japanese discharge-dyeing technique. Gently drifting across these scenes are the luminous forms of Tamayura.

Bringing these ethereal moments to life is the same master embroiderer whose freehand embroidery has long given form to KOROMO's beloved yokai.
This is a design I have dreamed of creating for many years.
I hope its quiet presence leaves a lingering impression in your heart.
