KOROMO possesses approximately eighty different full-pattern printing plates.
Among them are intricate Yuzen-style designs requiring as many as sixteen separate plates to complete, while others are expressed using only a single plate.

This Karajishi Botan pattern is one of the latter — created with just one plate.

Much like how, in the world of calligraphy, the single kanji character “一” (“one”) is said to be the most difficult to master, designs expressed solely through the contrast between printed and unprinted space demand extraordinary precision precisely because of their simplicity.

Alongside the dragon, the Karajishi is regarded as one of the most dignified and valiant of all mythical beasts.
The “shishi” (lion), king of beasts, paired with the “botan” (peony), queen of flowers and symbol of prosperity.

Looking back to the Azuchi-Momoyama period, one can understand why no other pairing could rival this iconic combination.

For this shirt, the refreshing white fabric is paired with blue Karajishi Botan motifs, while the calm moegi-green fabric features the motif in purple.
The result is a piece that highlights both the beauty of negative space unique to single-plate printing and the bold strength of the pattern itself.

Crafted from lightweight and breathable 100% cotton fabric, the shirt remains comfortable even during the hottest seasons.
The finished piece is an elegant all-over patterned shirt that stands vividly beneath the summer sun.
