Not long after the brand KOROMO was born, someone once said to us, “KOROMO is circles, triangles, and squares…”
At the time, those words made no sense to us at all. No matter how much we thought about it, we couldn’t connect “circle, triangle, square” to anything—and we were completely at a loss.
Then one day, as if in answer, carp streamers (koinobori) came swimming vividly through the sky. That was it.
We still remember how hard it was to hold back the urge to jump with excitement—many years ago, around the time of Children’s Day in early May.
Since then, carp streamers have appeared at KOROMO storefronts in many different forms. Though they are now sometimes spoken of as an “endangered sight,” gradually disappearing from the Japanese landscape, the heartfelt wish for children’s healthy growth—celebrated through seasonal traditions—is something we believe must never be lost.
This new carp streamer design draws inspiration from traditional ukiyo-e woodblock prints. Bold black outlines define the form, while strikingly vivid colors are layered within—bringing the piece to life with a beauty that rivals the magnificent carp streamers once created by master craftsmen and set free to swim in the wind.
First introduced on a long-sleeve T-shirt, this carp streamer now makes its appearance on a short-sleeve version as well.
Wear it, and let it swim freely beneath the blue summer sky.
