In Kyoto, flea markets are often held at shrines and temples, where old and timeworn items are sold from temporary stalls. Among them, one occasionally comes across yellowed scraps of paper—objects that seem to have been discarded long ago.
They might be posters, matchbox labels, or small paper medicine bags. Each one feels like a small miracle of survival, stirring a quiet sense of wonder.

Of all these, medicine bags (yakutai) perhaps convey the spirit of their era most vividly.
Rather than carefully listing medical effects, their designs boldly suggest that “this will cure anything,” easing the patient’s anxiety and lightening the emotional burden of illness. That gentle optimism is what makes them so remarkable.

With this in mind, we set out to create a T-shirt that comes as close as possible to the look of old printing techniques, finished with an intentionally antique feel.
A piece designed so that those who pass by might smile—perhaps even let out a small laugh—at its playful nod to “medicine.”
