Sashiko is most easily imagined as a technique where thick thread travels back and forth between the front and back of the fabric at regular intervals, appearing intermittently along the warp threads as the cloth is formed.
The sashiko used on the front panels of this vest extends that idea to the weft threads as well. Thick threads surface in certain areas, then return to the back again, with those points of emergence aligned to the same positions as the warp sashiko. In this way, vertical sashiko and horizontal sashiko intersect, creating a distinctive cross pattern.
With a slightly wider shoulder width, a double-style construction applied only to the first button, and contrasting fabric panels at the pockets, the vest has a striking presence while remaining surprisingly lightweight and easy to wear. This is a new KRM vest that once again gives rise to a world unlike anything before.
