The crane has long been cherished as an auspicious symbol suitable for ceremonial occasions such as wedding attire. While many birds change partners each year, cranes are known to remain with the same partner for life once they have chosen one.

They always live as a family, with both parents cooperating in raising their young. At the same time, they are migratory birds that travel long distances between Japan and Siberia. This devoted and resilient way of life has captivated many people throughout history.

In this piece, a crane is magnificently depicted on the back using hand-guided embroidery. Along the front hem, creeping pine motifs (haimatsu)—commonly seen on traditional black formal kimono (kurotomesode)—are also expressed through the same meticulous hand-guided embroidery, extending horizontally with elegance.

The fabric itself is made from shaggy material that was especially popular around the 1950s and often prized as a standout textile. Its finely thinned pile creates a soft, textured surface that offers warmth and volume, gently enveloping the wearer in a comforting and cozy feel.
