Cardigans are among the most useful garments for regulating body temperature, especially during seasonal transitions. Compared with pullovers, their defining feature is the front opening, which makes them easy to put on and take off. For that reason, they may be one of the most frequently worn and long-loved items throughout the year.
This familiar layering piece has been designed with a silhouette that leans slightly closer to a jacket, featuring a large peony expressed through bassen (discharge dyeing) and embroidery.
When embroidering onto cut-and-sew jersey fabric (tenjiku), the most important consideration is ensuring that the embroidery does not become heavy and that it blends naturally with the softness of the material. For this reason, a technique called “kagari” is used—rather than filling the entire area, the embroidery lightly traces and accents only key points.
This method requires a great deal of sensitivity and aesthetic judgment, and even veteran embroidery artisans sometimes find themselves pausing in thought over the balance. Yet hands that have spent long years working with needle and thread can transform a simple “flower” into something truly flourishing and radiant.
A softly blooming peony.
※This piece is available with embroidery in two color variations: Red or Blue. When placing your order, please select your preferred color before proceeding to the cart.
