Once a muddy wetland, Kameda-go in Niigata was a place where work meant standing waist-deep in cold water.
To endure such harsh conditions, the farmers longed for cotton textiles that were as strong and durable as possible—thus, Kameda Stripes were born, created by the farmers themselves.

Woven tightly and with great care, the fabric’s initial firmness gradually softens with each wash, growing more supple over time and naturally conforming to the skin.

In defiance of modern looms that prize speed above all else, Kameda Stripes are woven slowly on traditional looms, advancing little by little with a powerful, resonant rhythm.

Straight lines drawn from auspicious patterns—destined never to intersect—are playfully combined to create a geometric design.

The motifs along the hem, depicting waves of the Sea of Japan and cherry blossoms awaiting spring, are finished with hand-guided embroidery.
