Clothing is created by cutting and sewing a single piece of fabric.
Unlike kimono, where the placement and cutting are predetermined, Western garments are built through a completely different approach.
Even with the same design, the way the fabric is cut becomes the defining factor in creating a more three-dimensional silhouette.
At first glance, it may seem to be just a simple tunic dress.
However, the reason we intentionally divided the pattern into multiple panels and took the extra effort to sew them together was to create elegant drapes flowing toward the hem — forming a soft silhouette that gently spreads and moves with the wind.
To achieve this movement without disturbing its natural flow, a lightweight fabric was absolutely essential.
For this purpose, fine rope-dyed indigo yarns were woven on a specialized dobby loom, carefully constructing a precise and delicate sashiko-inspired texture.
The resulting custom woven fabric carries a strong presence despite its lightness. When discharge-dyed, it beautifully reveals even the subtle brush strokes of the original hand-painted artwork without concealing their expression.
