Sashiko-ori, often praised by people overseas as a symbol of Japanese culture, is a fabric known for its strength and remarkable durability. Traditionally used for kendo, judo, and aikido uniforms, it is designed to withstand intense movement and friction—qualities that few other textiles can match.
However, its weight and stiffness have also made it somewhat difficult to handle in everyday wear.

To overcome these drawbacks, we created a lighter and warmer sashiko fabric in Okayama, a region renowned for its expertise in indigo dyeing. By layering soft, gauze-like textiles together—much like a double-knit structure—we developed a sashiko material whose cross-section resembles the rings of a Baumkuchen cake.

These wide, relaxed pants offer exceptional warmth and ease of movement compared to traditional sashiko fabrics, while maintaining the rich character unique to this textile.
